A recent goodie I got was a Gerber Armbar Slim. I had been looking for something with some tools but not much larger than my regular folder. I didn’t need a lot of tools, mostly just a screw driver and maybe bottle open most days. So this looked to fit the bill.

It’s certainly a small profile. Closed up it is about 1/2″x1/2.” So thicker than my regular folder but narrower.

Even though it’s pretty small the tools are normal sized which is certainly nice. For example the stats say the blade is only 2 inches but it feels plenty big for anything I’ve ever used a pocket knife for. I’ve been very happy with it so far, and it has come in handy a number of times already. While not really a fast knife it is more useful. My only real gripes (which are not the knifes fault, more just my tastes) is that it is a two handed knife. Usually I’m whipping my regular knife out one handed since I’m holding whatever it is I’m cutting in the other. That and the lack of a pocket clip, since that is how I usually carry them.

Some Accessories
The knife is set up sort of as a key chain or sheath knife as is doesn’t have a pocket clip, just a lanyard loop. (FYI the full size does have a pocket clip) Since I wasn’t a fan of it just loosely bouncing around my pocket I went online and found a guy called Hacktical who 3D prints one. There was a kit option with a thumb stud so I opted for THAT.

Hacktical actually includes two clips and studs in the package so you can either do up two knives or more likely have a spare if you lose or break the first ones.

The clip is pretty solid and works well. The stud is a stud, but it fits well. Both look good on the knife.

The only thing is with the clip installed it pushes the knife blade up a bit when closed. The blade is normally flush and below you can see how it sticks up a bit now. The stud works fine but due to the style of the blade you end up with your thumb hitting the edge if you don’t watch it carefully. so it doesn’t turn it into a quick deploying one handed knife really. You can do it one handed but the combination of stiffness and shape make it a bit precarious and slower.

Overall I am very happy with this little guy and am tempted to get the full size for camping.

If you want to take a look at what they have here are the other versions.

Addendum; reading the reviews on the knife are pretty perplexing. Usually it’s always a good idea to check product reviews but all the people who left them seem to have had no idea what they were buying. For example one person complains that there aren’t scissors. Well there are scissors on the scissors model, or both on the full size. Or another complains that the driver bit isn’t as stable or sturdy as a regular screwdriver. Well yeah, but you cant fit that in your pocket hence the compromise with making it fold. Just irks me when people make ignorant complaints. “oh my little Honda accord cant keep up with a super car, what a pos” yeah duh, it’s not supposed to.

Stupid reviews are a pet peeve. This gun part that’s clearly listed as Glock Gen 1-3 doesn’t fit my Gen 5 so 1 star! My Amazon delivery was 2 days late so *the product* gets a bad review.

I run a Leatherman Skeletool, which has a clip and a one-handed open (though isn’t a speed knife), and most importantly: PLIERS. It’s a lot bigger than this little guy, though.
