Colt 70 series 1911 in 45 ACP by Mr. Dave Laubert (Defensive Creations) out of Alliance Ohio. Years ago I saw a rather avant garde slab side revolver made by Dave. I loved it so much I called him and did the unthinkable…I ordered a wheel gun. Why not? It however fell short for me because no matter how many times I shot it, the slide wouldn’t cycle. There was this round thing inside of it turning with each shot?? It just wasn’t a 1911 was it. So I called Dave (who is the nicest dude on the planet) and ordered what I wanted. I sent a gun and waited patiently while he worked through some promised guns for a client who was a competitive shooter. Well patience pays dividends and time gave way to this masterpiece. I sent David a crooked ass, marred up Colt and he sent back this work of art. Most of my guns weren’t made for me, so the few that were, just mean more to me. Look at this thing—laser straight, beautiful checkering fore and aft, laser welded frame to slide, beautiful hand polishing inside flawless blueing, perfectly mounted Bomar, French borders, perfectly executed ball cuts, hard fit match grade Kart…I could go on for days. I shot it for the first time yesterday and it was exceptional—way better than I could ever hope to be. This is what you get from a journeyman machinist who used to be a competitive IDPA shooter. I feel like machinists just make better guns. I love this gun and if you see it for sale, I’m dead. You’re damn right it’s shod in Craig Spegel grips. I sourced these 12 months ago, and put them in a bag labeled “Laubert.” The best gets the best. After I recieved the gun I texted Dave and said, do you mind if I give you one piece of advice. He said no problem. I said charge more.
