Yesterday the world lost John Allen. You may or may not know who Allen is. His story of a mission in SOG that resulted in him being the only survivor is one of the most amazing SOG stories to come out publicly. I can’t do it justice trying to retell it here. No shortened up version would be appropriate. He should have been awarded the Medal Of Honor for his actions during that mission. You can read about it in full detail in John PLaster’s first book on SOG. The book is worth buying for the telling of that mission alone.

Michelle Allen, daughter of MACV-SOG recon veteran John J. Allen, has passed on the sad news that John passed away on June 12th, 2024.

Then SSG Allen was the sole survivor of Recon Team Alabama on May 4th, 1968. He was awarded the Silver Star for his actions during the two days that RT Alabama was under attack.
