Colt Delta Elite 10mm by Karl Beining (@kgb_customs) out of Leipsic OH. I keep a mental inventory of what my favorite 1911s are. Your looking at one of them. Why? Well look at it. All stainless Delta finished in black PVD over hard chrome, forged and checkered (50 LPI) squared trigger guard, restored roll marks, checkered fore and aft, perfectly mounted Bomar sight—no easy task on an 80 series gun, two piece “weld on” Stan Chen magwell (no one piece easy way out), Yost gold line front sight, Kart hard fit barrel, all lines laser straightened, all sharp edges meticulously dehorned, stirrup cuts that line up perfectly with the frame, French borders, custom massaged WC thumb safety, commander ring hammer beautifully chamfered, top lined, rear serrated, ivory grips, I could go on and on. Not one millimeter of this gun has been neglected. Suffice it to say this gun was an “all in” effort to make the nicest Delta on earth. So that’s the gun. What about the man? Karl Beining is in my opinion one of the best 1911 gunsmiths in the business. It’s more than the technical skill— it’s the character of a man who always takes your calls, helps anyone who asks, never has a bad word to say about anyone, and understands where he’s going and whose shoulders he’s standing on. He is a student of the craft, intently studying the guns and smiths that came before him. The dude is a virtual 1911 encyclopedia and when the greats are all gone, it will be Beining that carries the bespoke Colt torch. Most smiths are way too smart to build on Colts— they’re flawed, crooked, and there’s too much to forgive. So why do we want them. Cause they have a horsey on the slide, that’s why. #kgbcustoms #deltaelite10mm
