1954 purpose built bullseye Colt with a highly accurized NM slide, barrel, and bushing, by Ernest Blackburn (1951-2013). Ernie, from Bemidji Minnesota, was a devoted family man and outdoor enthusiast. He enjoyed bird hunting with his Gordon Setters, camping, canoeing, hobby farming, and flying his J3 Piper Cub. His bullseye 1911s are marked “EB” on the barrel hood and they are built like Sherman tanks. This was number 26. Here’s to the American man…who is no longer built like this.
Minnesota? Hmm. I know a bullseye shooter from Minnesota. So I asked him if he remembered Blackburn and he sent the following reply:
“Yes indeed. He built 2 or 3 45’s for me in the early/mid 70’s. He lived south of Madison, Whiz-con-sin in those days but managed to travel to Brrrrr-midji once or twice a month in the summer when there was a pistol match around the Twin Cities. He was a pretty consistent low 2600 shooter. I haven’t heard the name since probably 78 or 79 and had no idea he had passed. 1951 to 2013, I wonder if he got it in a bar fight. He loved to talk about how he had kicked the shit out of sumdood every time I saw him.”
