I been hearing a lot of people going on and on about the Turkish made 1911 clones for a while. Some one I even take seriously told me they were pretty good. A few weeks ago I saw one at a gun store for $349.00. Hardly a price that reflects a quality 1911. But it was attractive at a surface level. It does look like a USGI 1911 mostly. It has a lot of small details that are off but for 350 what can you expect?
People started asking me about them. I was tempted to waste 350 to find out. As luck would have it, one of the Ky Crew spared me the indignity of buying a 1911 not made by Colt and brought it by.

A lot of sharp edges on it. Lots of biting and nipping you when handling and shooting. Not bad but noticeable.

How did it shoot? Well look below. All are 7 round groups I shot off hand from 15 yards in absolute pouring ice cold rain.
Top group is from dogshit Speer training ammo. That was the first group and I wasn’t impressed. It was what I expected from it. Also had two failures to feed. Slide locked back on a loaded mag.
The other groups were higher quality 230 grain ball. That got my attention. Look at that bottom left group! That is 7 rounds of PMC Bronze 230 grain ball.

Hey, that’s not bad is it?
Gun had about 8 failures to feed before seeming to “break in,” it was brand new and I suppose a 350 buck gun can be forgiven a 100 round break in period. I’m not going to carry a 350 dollar Turkish made pistol for CCW to depend on anyway. You might but I won’t. I think if I switched to Wilson or Colt mags the failures to feed might not have happened. There was no stove pipes or failures to extract. I did have a few empties smack me in the face though, Very erratic ejection pattern. You guys who have been thinking about buying one will have to decide for yourselves. I’m sorry to say I didn’t get time to try out hollow points or match ammo with it. It wasn’t mine and the friend had just stopped by for a couple hours on the way back from a trip and still had 6 hours of driving ahead of him.
I will try to get some time with another one and see how it does.
lol, just need PSA to start making 1911s then we’re all set. Honestly for a range toys these do look tempting. Just something to scratch the retro itch and be able to beat the brakes off guilt free.

Look up the PSA “Admiral” pistols. I think they are a RIA product.

out of curiosity, what is your preferred range ammo?

I haven’t really thought about it too hard. I guess I will always buy the winchester 230 ball if I can find it.

That’s not bad at all.
The bites and nips are one of the things I see in most every gun made when they start cutting costs. I’ve shredded my fingers taking the action bars out of modern Mossberg and Remington pump guns, I’ve had to use polishing stones to take off the burrs on Turkish gun parts in the lockwork of their shotguns, stone the slide and frame rails on Filipino 1911’s, etc, etc.
Making a quality gun requires a lot of detail work that isn’t glamorous, new, or inventive.
