If you follow custom 1911s on social media, you have no doubt seen or heard this young man @1776_duck expounding his love for a newly acquired 1911 made for Ken Hackathorn by Dave Pegram. Well here’s another one. This 1978 Colt, with a NM slide and hard fit Kart barrel/bushing, is flawlessly checkered and equipped with a Bomar adjustable sight–in other words it’s everything. Dave Pegram was a machinist with New Machine Co. in the day, and he built guns out of his home shop (Triad Custom Guns) at night. Out of high school he attended Colorado School of Trades gunsmithing school, and after that, he moved home to Greenboro NC, where he would live out his days. He was a competitive shooter and liked by all. He was a mentor to Larry Vickers when he started gunsmithing–teaching him how to checker and fit barrels. This gun wears its original hard chrome by Metaloy, which effectively lasts forever. The slide is now re-blued and this old bitch finally found forever grips by Mr. Craig Spegel…because we are not animals. Dave sadly died at 55 years old– please check your lead levels.
