Springfield Armory in .45 ACP by carpenter Rich Dettelhouser (Canyon Creek Customs) out of Streator Illinois. Never heard of him? It’s because you are not a professional shooter. There are plenty of pistolsmiths building 1911s for hobbyists who shoot 150 casual rounds with their golf buddy every Sunday, and then go to brunch. And then there are pistolsmiths who build guns for professional shooters who intend to melt other professional shooters to the ground, under intense pressure. Rich, who is himself a Grandmaster in three different divisions, is the latter. I’m not quite sure how to describe the build quality of this gun, so I’ll leave at this: It’s precise —made like a Swiss sewing machine and made to finish. If you don’t finish, you can’t win, so you’re goddamn right this thing isn’t going to hiccup. It features his pathognomonic thin square trigger guard and “snake belly” machined top. I love this gun. Jesus was a carpenter.
