Colt 70 series in .45 ACP by Rob Schauland out of Ft. Wayne Indiana. Rob had a company named Alchemy which merged with Cabot. When that happened, I thought this is a good thing…he will bring some soul to an otherwise sterile company. He’s a gunsmith, who is going to show a bunch of machinists what a gun should look like. Well, that didn’t happen. Cabot’s and Alchemys are certainly fine pistols, but excite the mind they do not. Maybe I just have an old fashion aesthetic and they just don’t cater to it. After Rob left Alchemy and hung his shingle, under the moniker Schauland Performance, I was one of the first to send a crooked, rusty Colt. After all, he had to earn it right? Well, last week I got back this precision instrument and excite the mind it absolutely does. It’s “David Sams” hard fit and it just feels special. It’s all there –straightened lines, beveled and radiused edges, match grade pipe, surgically blended beavertail, Bomar rear sight, checkered everywhere including the trigger guard, and now shod in Spegels–as god intended. Because I’m straight, I removed the nitre blue pins (replacing them with a standard blue set from @brandanbunker) and now she’s ready for her first range session. Something tells me this is going to be in my top ten.
Do want.
