As I think I’ve mentioned before, here in Australia I’ve seen one Colt firearms (a Diamondback revolver) in nigh on 50 years of pressing triggers.

I’ve seen thousands of revolvers, and apart from the occasional Ruger, a few Manurhins (damn nice guns) and a dman oddball Chiappa Rhino, every one of them has been a Smith.

The gunsmiths I’ve spoken to have said that Smiths have much more rugged and reliable lockwork, and they’re much easier to tune and smooth. They reckon the few Colts they’ve seen are great guns, but kinda finicky and prone to reliability problems. They see the Smith as a working man’s gun for serious work.

Maybe its a Ford vs GM thing, but I’ve spent my entire adult life with Smith revolvers and while a Python would be a nice addition to my collection, I’d take a Model 58 in .41 Magnum, or a Model 29 first.

if i was going to buy a python, it would be one of the new ones. Nelson mentions in a previous video that Colt stopped using that old V spring system hard to work on and adjust. I don’t know much about all that but I can say I have shot many old pythons and the new ones. and the new ones are better
