Colt 70 series in .45 ACP by Austin Texas gunsmith Alan Tillman. This gun with two (compensated and non-compensated) barrels/slides, features Schuemann match grade barrels, Novaks sights, Pete Single flawless checkering, and lustrous hard chrome. Tillman was a Yamaha motorcycle salesman for years in a small family run business. In 1985 he left to help a local gunsmith repair guns. As a competitive IPSC shooter himself, he soon got interested in building “full house” custom 1911s, and that’s when he left to start his own shop called to ART. His shop name had a double meaning—first it stood for Alan Rory Tillman, but more importantly (to Alan) it stood for the art of gun building. Alan shot with his good friend Chip McCormick who vouched for Alan’s talent and sent him a lot of customers. Alan was one of the gunsmiths (along side Dave Lauck, Neil Keller, and Alex Hamilton) who was selected by the APG to build president George W. Bush a custom 1911. Alan was inducted into the APG in 1994 and is on my short list of American pistol-smiths who mattered. This gun shod in Cocobolo double diamond grips by Craig Spegel….because we are not animals.
