This 70 series colt in .45 ACP was made by German gunsmith Fred Schmidt. It features Swenson ambidextrous safety, Smith & Wesson low mount K sight, Kings grip safety, commander hammer, and a welded up NM pipe…all shod in Pachmayr rubbers. Schmidt, a member of the APG, was a German machinist and gunsmith at Walther for years. After which, he opened a custom shop in Mechanicsville Virginia called, you guessed it, Fred’s Gun Shop. He was known for his PPC “Short Cylinder Conversions” where the cylinder was cut for 38 special wadcutters. Fred passed away in 1986, and his friend and colleague Jerry Keefer bought most of his equipment from his wife Greta. Sorry I fell short in finding a picture of the man. If you have one, please message me.
