A couple years ago, a cop buddy of mine had this gun and he was trying to sell it. He couldn’t give the thing away. He kept telling me this is one of the best built 1911s he had ever owned, and the guy knows a lot about 1911s. It was just an ugly gun, made on a Caspian, by a pistolsmith that nobody had ever heard of. So it languished, ignored and unloved, on a popular 1911 forum. I’ve always been intrigued by those extreme makeover shows, where the fat ugly girl loses weight, puts on nice clothes, gets a contemporary haircut, and then comes out in the end, radiant to everyone’s delight. Because sometimes it’s in there, it’s just not presented well. So to honor the man’s memory, I bought it…for virtually nothing. He was right about the gun. It was put together really well–drum tight with a hard fit Kart barrel. It is indescribably heavy and fantastic to shoot. I sent the lower for NP3, the upper for blue, and shod the bitch in these Avante Garde “spear grips” from Wood Caliber…and look at old Gerdie now. This full house Caspian in .45 ACP was made by Michael Theodorou out of a shop called Windham Armorer in Brattleboro, VT.
