Man, it’s been about 45 years since I last wore a green cotton raincoat, but you show me some green webbing, an M16A1 and a 1:25000 or 1:50000 topo map, and it all comes flooding back. I look at one of those, and I’m automatically doing patrol plans, considering high ground, looking for ambush sites for me and them, creek crossings, escarpments and all that shit.
I reckon if I make it to 100 years old, I’ll still be studying the ground for places to give my machine guns mutually supporting enfilade fire, and good spots to place my claymores against the attacking waves of gooks.
Or Muslims! 🙂 I hope I live long enough to see the day.
