1977 “Large Letter” Colt in .45 ACP by San Antonio Texas pistolsmith Forest M. Davis. In addition to being really good at ping pong, master Sergeant Forest was a highly accomplished bullseye shooter for the Air Force. After his military service, Forest apprenticed under the legendary Bob Day, who taught him everything he knew. Davis was devastated when Day died in a plane crash, but he carried on Bob’s tradition of making painstakingly accurate 1911s. Forest’s greatest pride was that he made the gun that an American shooter won an Olympic Silver medal with. Not bad for a guy building guns out of a backyard shed in San Antonio Texas. This beautiful 1911 features meticulous hand stippling, Swenson ambidextrous thumb safety, Smith and Wesson rear K sight, and a welded up Colt pipe, distally shored up by a Kings bushing. This gun is shod in quite possibly the most beautiful set of grips that Kim Ahrends ever made. I had to battle hard for them against some guy on eBay, and I believe I said a record for price paid for a set of Ahrends grips, but there was no way I was gonna let old Forest down. Special thanks to my friend @kgb_customs for lending this gun, his limitless talent by way of restoration.
