I just stumbled across former American Handgunner photographer Ichiro Nagata’s YouTube page and found this. I almost didn’t recognize Mickey Fowler without his mustache. Mickey gives Ichi a look at the pistol he used to place second at the first Steel Challenge in 1981, and fourth at the 1982 match. It started its cutom life as a Jim Hoag 5″ Master Grade in .45 Auto. Mickey had several of those, so he was willing to sacrifice this example to create a more modern racegun. First, the new Mike Plaxco compensator with extended barrel was fitted. Afterwards, Jim Boland worked over the frame to create a mega-flared magwell.
