Several months back, I noted that Smith & Wesson was working on a .22 Magnum Rimfire pistol. It looks like in the mean time, S&W’s engineers have noticed the expansion of the market for the 5.7x28mm FN cartridge, and have gone back to the drawing board.

In response, Brett Curry has designed a gas-operated, rotary barrel pistol.

This is interesting. I’m not sure they’d get me to run out and buy one, but at least it’s not just another off-brand Glock.

If I’m not mistaken, there are no comparable semi auto pistols in .17 HMR. I think even the rifle guys have struggled to make semiautomatics work with .17 HMR, though maybe that’s old info.

Sure do seem to be lots of folks jumping on the 5.7 bandwagon all of a sudden.

I mocked 5.7 a few days ago on the Ruger thread, but I don’t think it’s a bad round. There are actually some cool guns for it, like the Kel Tec that takes the FiveseveN magazines. It would be nice if there were enough demand that a round with .22 Mag-class energy were able to be delivered with centerfire reliability.
