A very cool pictures shared by one of the fellas in the FB SOG group. An indig loads a variant of the “death machine” pack.
The idea was an M60 gunner would carry 1,000 rounds of 7.62 ammo in a box using the light weight ruck frame. The belt was fed to the gun using of the flexible guides usually seen on aircraft. I think it was China Lake that refined it into the “final product” version. The photo above shows a version I had not seen before using a cylinder shaped ammo container. I almost wonder if that was one made for the RPD often carried by SOG.

The fellows so no one actually took it into the field for obvious reasons. 1,000 rounds of 762 on a pack is heavy as hell and doesn’t leave you much room for everything else you need.
I have an even harder time imagining either one of those “little people” carrying that contraption around. Some of them were tough little mothers but there’s a limit.
