Colt rail gun built by Dave Severns. Dave, who began gun-smithing in the late 1970s, was a hard-hat diver and engineer by training. A self-taught pistolsmith, he was known for producing a series of internet “shootout articles” in the early 2000’s, where he evaluated and tested high performance 1911s made by other custom shops and manufacturers. His custom pistols were largely built on Dan Wesson and Les Baer base guns and were predominantly cloaked in his company’s “Hard Hat” finish—a form of ferritic nitrocarburizing, much like conventional Melonite. Hard hat and melonite are kinda like how Henry Ford put it about his cars. He famously said, “any customer can have any color he wants…as long as it’s black.” Grips by Jon Aho
Well damn, that’s a helluva serious looking piece. I’m a wheelgun guy, but I could be persuaded to change my preferences…my gun preferences, I mean…by a gun like that.
