In the wake of the Combat Special’s commercial success, and in an effort to push the accuracy envelope, Pachmayr picked up where the Signature model fell short, and proudly released the Competition II. Designed and developed by championship shooters, the Competition II incorporated the most technically advanced concepts in accuracy systems available at the time. The extended barrel and fixed muzzle welght increased sight radius, reducing recoil and muzzle rise, and speeding shot-to-shot recovery. The muzzle welght was precision-machined from a billet of 4140 steel and was permanently secured to the barrel—ie real gunsmithing. On top of the massive barrel weight is a fixed front sight, which is static during recoil, allowing the shooter to stay focused on the target. For rigidity, the barrel and muzzle weight were supported with a full-length tungsten guide rod and each Competition II was fitted with a match grade 6″ Barsto barrel. Frank guaranteed groups of 1 inch or less from a machine rest at 25 yards. Pachmayr advertised this gun as “the difference between Ist place and also ran.” I’m not sure how many of these guns came out of Pachmayr but I will say this…I’ve never seen another one. Ordinarily I say black rubber is for dildos not guns, but OG Pachmayrs get OG Pachmayrs, because what’s right is right.
