I am about a month late getting my “new” Colt CR6762 7.62X39mm carbine to the range. During my military career I fired numerous Soviet Bloc, Chinese and European variants of the AK/RPK family which all had average accuracy at best. I have heard great things about the accuracy of 7.62x39mm out of the Colt barrel and am anxious to see it first-hand.

I also decided that a new firearm dictated a new optic to really maximize the carbines capability at longer ranges. I own optics from the ‘big’ brands like Aimpoint, Eotech and Trijicon. This time, I wanted a brand that I wasn’t familiar with and decided that the Primary Arms, LLC SLX 1-6×24 with the ACSS Aurora reticle was the way to go.

In situations like this, where I’m just doing some personal range evaluation and familiarization, I typically buy a mount made by the optic manufacturer when practical. In this case, I also bought the Primary Arms GLx 30mm cantilever mount for use with the SLX 1-6×24.
