Here’s a prewar (1930) custom 1911 (with a revolver grip and two pound trigger) made by Los Angeles gunsmith Archibald Brinkerhoff, who died shortly after WWII. Nobody knows how many he made, but there are only 3 known of in existence. This is in my opinion this is the most beautiful 1911 ever crafted by anyone. Dude was a straight up blacksmith. I finally made contact with the owner who sent me these pictures and told me he might sell it. He’s 73 years old and says “We’re all up there flying…but we all gotta land sometime.” Is this the first custom (read carved up) 1911? I talk to this guy about guns and life weekly —he’s one of the coolest guy I have ever met. I love this hobby

I seem to remember pre-WW2 “American Rifleman” editor Fred C. Ness mentioning that he had two Brinkerhoff pistols. Ness was Brinkerhoff’s biggest promoter in the early gun press.
