While looking for an either retro or military styled Bluetooth speaker for the jeep I saw an ad for this claymore speaker. Fit the bill perfectly so picked one up.

The speaker is made by Catastrophic Industries and can be found on Amazon for $90. This is really geared at being a useful novelty so I give it extra points for style that I wouldn’t normally give to a speaker.

It is the same size as an M18A1 Claymore and even has a little sight molded into the top where the power button is. I appreciate the fun touch of having “Front Toward Party” on it. Where the leads would be on a real claymore are the volume up and down buttons. It comes with working legs that allow you to stand it up right or stick it in the stand. I actually find them to work well for holding mine around the 4×4 stick shifts of the jeep.

The legs are stiff enough to hold it there just fine.

Just to add to the fun is the pairing sound it makes when it turns on is an explosion. I chuckle every time I turn it on. It is supposed to be waterproof as well but I haven’t tested it. (feel free to buy me a 2nd one and I’ll put it through the ringer)

Sound quality is adequate. It’s clear and there are no issues but nothing that particularly stands out. I find the bass and over all power a little lacking for something in this size category. It’s not bad just that the purpose built speakers like JBL will outperform it. So if you’re a real audiophile you will probably be happier with something like that. But I wanted something that would blending with the aesthetic of the jeep, while also not being huge or expensive (the ammo can ones are around $300) hence my happiness with this gizmo.
