These guys decided to recreate the famous Carlos Hathcock scope shot. While in a dual with a PAVN sniper, Carlos fired a round that went through the snipers optic and into the eye. The retards on that old Mythbusters show tried to test this and decided it couldn’t be done. Of course they used a modern optic, not a Russian 3x scope.

Now, I have wondered about that shot for a long time. In the book, Marine Sniper and other times, its mentioned that the bullet went through the scope without touching the sides. All recreation shots have been pretty close. Probably closer than all the the recreation shots have been and we all know bullets don’t travel in a straight line. I wish Carlos had said how far the shot was.

Well, over the course of a…I dunno…500m…trajectory, the flight of a projectile is obviously curved. However, over the course of the trajectory that will fit into a scope (say twelve inches) the trajectory will be very close to a straight line.

Soooo…I think its possible to put a round through a scope body from considerable range. That being said, I’ve always felt that this is a tall story. It may well be true, but I’m a sceptical man and this just seems like one of those apocryphal “Dan’l Boone shot the balls off a flea at 300 yards with his flintlock musket” yarns that sound good but maybe just ain’t so.

If I’m wrong, and Gunny Hathcock actually did make that amazing shot, then bless him, and I sincerely apologise to his spirit, as him and Chuck (pbuh) teach God in heaven how to shoot straight and true.

Carlos himself has told this story. I’ve always been skeptical since no range was ever mentioned

FFS, as a Rifleman with 45 years on the trigger, all I can say is that this is some of the dumbest shit I’ve ever seen.

I worked with the USMC a few times back in the day, and apart from their tendencies to lick windows and eat crayons, I’d always be happy to have Marines on my flanks. So how does shit like this come to pass? FFS. 😟

I don’t understand how the clowns behind Mythbusters have the balls to say that its impossible for that shot to have happened. If it did happen the way it was told, it’s a once in a lifetime shot, it’s a million monkeys with a million typewriters scenario.
