No, I don’t have one. But I’ve always wanted one.

Some of you will recall the good old days ( for access to imported rifles) when you could walk into a gun store and see things like Norinco AKs, Polytec M14s and all manner of things now lost to time and collectors with larger wallets. One of those wonders one may have seen was the Finnish line of Valmet AK variants. In this man’s opinion, the finest AK variant ever made.

Reportedly the actual first AK rifles to ever be imported into the US before the others started making there way here. All eventually banned from the 89 ban from our Republican conservative president at the time ( a story that will repeat itself over and over and over) in a now common act of betrayal.

The first time I saw one wasn’t in a gun store, it was in a movie. A comedy staring Robin Williams of all things.

I have yet to shoot one. I have handled two. The x39 model and the .223 variant. One right before the 89 ban and another in the late 90s. The quality just from a handling and visual inspection was impressive.

I fear my chance of shooting one is as likely as me having a pet Dodo bird now. Any still around are no doubt locked up as tight as Ft Knox in various gun collections and maybe some Hollywood prop houses. There can’t be many on the market these days. In many years I have only seen the 2 and believe me, I have looked.
