My friend bought this M1 from our mutual friend, Brady. I’m sure long times readers recall Brady. The M1 was in rough shape. Barrel was shot completely out and the stock left much to be desired. CJ did a great job replacing the barrel himself with a new one with chrome lining and bought a new stock. A BM-59 stock actually. If you look close maybe you can spot the tell.

CJ left it to me for zeroing and to play with, he lives in the middle of a city that would frown upon firing up an M1 in the front yard. I suggest I load up some ammo for it and maybe try to take a deer with it this season,

I loaded some vintage 150 grain Winchester Silver tips and started some load development.

Got it worked out to be a nice little load.

You can see the final 5 shot group above at 100 yards. Not bad in my opinion. It’s rare for these old eyes to shoot a group that good at 100 yards anymore. I have my doubts about my ability to shoot that well with little light on a deer with iron sights though. Might save the M1 for mid day sunny open field hunting.

Below you can see me goofing around shooting it with some period correct gear just for fun,

Do you load your Garand ammo a little light? I’ve heard Garands don’t like hot 30-06.
