Seems there are some lessons that I have to keep having to relearn. I had to put down a deer hit by a car again this summer and when I went to make the headshot of mercy…Misfire. The round was dead. This is modern factory ammo made by Barnes. The solid copper HPs I prefer. This isn’t from age. I am pretty sure I know what causes it. Oil.

Most of the year, my EDC gun since about 2018 has been a Colt Lightweight Commander. With the blued slide, the Kentucky subtropical heat and humidity and condensation from going inside to outside will start rust pretty fast if I don’t keep it oiled. I refresh this oil every two weeks and clean the gun once a month if I shoot it or not. The oil eventually will get to the primer on a chambered round. And sometimes one in the mag. Slip2000 is what I like best and its nontoxic but it will still ruin a primer.
Normally I switch to an old stainless steel Gov model in the summer but for some reason took longer this summer.
I went out to see how many in the ramaining mag would still fire and had two more duds out of the 8 round mag. That’s 3 counting the 9th round in the chamber. Very let down with myself. I Should have known better since this has happened twice now. Would have been very embarrasing had I needed that for self defense. Lesson learned for the last time ( I hope ).
It is surprisingly easy how something that was 2nd nature fades from our minds. like wait did i alwasy do brush swab patch or was it swab patch brush. when you get into a routine of not doing it.
