Yep. you read it right. I’m sure you’ve heard the news before coming here. The FN SCAR is now going the way of the Dodo bird and Disco.

From FN-

No more rumors. FN America has completed our final production run of the commercial legacy SCAR series in the U.S. This includes the 16S, 17S and 20S but not SCAR 15P. What’s currently in our market is all that remains—so if you’ve been wanting one, now’s the time to grab it before it’s gone.

None of this affects FN’s global military SCARs – these are still in demand and still in production.

Look for more info leading up to SHOT Show 2026!

If you own a commercial legacy SCAR, don’t worry about support or parts. Owners can still receive service through our support center and spare parts will remain available through official distributors for a period of time. As for accessories, magazines for the legacy SCAR 17S and SCAR 20S will continue to be available in the future; however, the supply of accessories such as barrel assemblies will be limited over the next five years.

But don’t worry about spare parts and repaired! They got you covered “for a period of time.” I love it when you buy a massively over priced product from a company and then can’t get it serviced later. I’m sure that little bit of info will encourage everyone to rush out and get one before they dry up.. Totally worth the soon to be 10K price tag at the local gunshow.

So, what have we learned from the SCAR? Well, we learned that AR15 killers aren’t. We learned its a really stupid idea to let military end users (who don’t really know shit about guns) have a lot of input about how to configure your new whizz bang ultimate service rifle. We learned certain operating systems will wreck optics. we learned that buttstock was really trick but also pretty stupid. We learned that whatever it is you make it has to basically be a rip off of Stoner’s magnificent, perfect creation that even John Moses Browning himself would have admired had he been alive when it blessed the world.

On the other side. I kinda liked the SCAR H. I thought the 5.56mm scar was pointless and pretty lame and gay to be honest. The H was more to my liking when it came out. It had some appeal as a 7.62 combat carbine. It is light. It is plenty accurate and with a muzzle break…man with the right muzzle break you could bang out 308 like you are shooting a 556.

Now that’s not to say I would take it over a Colt 901. But I much prefer it to a G3 or a FAL. I won’t insult it by comparing it to the M14.

I hated the cocking handle. Another request from the Army SOF if memory serves… You just don’t let the intended end user have so much say on a combat arm. You’d think FN would have learned from H&K and the idiotic MK 23 SOCOM pistol. LOL. LMAO even.

I’m sure the SCAR will be back in some modified form later. Some PIP retooled attempted to salvage the idea.

Maybe if the SCAR had been 1500 bucks it would have helped a lot. But they thought they had the NEXT BIG THING. The NEXT MAJOR EVOLUTION in combat rifles to replace the M16. They certainly weren’t the first to make that mistake. The same mistake SIG is currently making.

I guess I said all that to say, the SCAR is now “pinning for the fjords ” ,as our friend Hognose was wont to say, and it was a interesting blip in the history or martial small arms but in the end it was little more than a blip at the end of the day.

I always wonder why no one else tried the direct gas from the AR. almost always yet another AR18 variant. Maybe the piston lends itself more to swapping between suppressed and no suppressed?

The AR15 is just such a clean and simple design it seems weird not to see more of it (well outside the US i guess)

Agree on the H, always thought that was a pretty cool gun, compact little 308

They’ve always looked kinda weird to me. Like, the barrel and receiver are very clean, then there’s this incredibly clunky and weird-arse looking butt stock kinda mashed on the end, like two different groups designed two different guns, then tried to smoosh them together.
