Springfield Armory® is proud to announce the release of the newest addition to the Hellcat® family, the Hellcat OSP .380. Chambered for the popular and highly controllable .380 round, this Hellcat is designed as a purpose-built micro-compact that delivers effective defensive performance while remaining extremely easy to conceal.

The Hellcat .380 takes everything that made the original 9mm version so popular and adds a softer shooting impulse. Combine this with its slim, lightweight dimensions, and you get exceptional control and effortless concealment. Paired with modern defensive ammunition, it delivers reliable penetration and expansion for potent personal defense.

This Optic Sight Pistol (OSP) in .380 is unique in its class in that it’s designed from the ground up to be optics-ready. Like the original 9mm Hellcat, the new .380 features a removable cover plate that conceals an interface cut designed to accept Shield RMSc/SMSc-pattern optics. Due to the direct-mount design, the optic sits low enough for the pistol’s U-Dot sights to co-witness with the red dot.

To ensure you have ample defensive firepower, the Hellcat OSP .380 features a class-leading 11+1 flush magazine in its smallest form, and also includes a 13+1 extended magazine for added versatility. Both magazines are constructed from stainless steel for strength and durability.

Rugged components, including a hammer-forged barrel and slide, make it a dependable everyday carry. The lightweight polymer frame features the Hellcat’s renowned Adaptive Grip Texture. Designed for maximum grip yet notable comfort, this grip texture employs a pattern of staggered pyramid shapes. The taller pyramids have a flattened top to ensure comfort. The shorter pyramids come to a point and lock into your hand for a secure hold when the pistol is firmly gripped.

“The 9mm Hellcat quickly established itself as the standard when it came to impressive micro-sized 9mm pistol performance and capability,” said Steve Kramer, Vice President of Marketing for Springfield Armory. “With the addition of this new Hellcat to the family, shooters have an optics-ready .380 featuring class-leading capacity that is ideal for their EDC needs.

I’m not a fan of micro 9’s like the Hellcat or P365 converted to 380 acp. I like to carry the 380 when I can’t carry my micro 9, such as when hiking with elastic waistband shorts. My micro 9mm Shield would pull my shorts down, whereas my 380 acp Bodyguard is perfect. I also carry my 380 during the few times I’m wearing a dress shirt and tie in a non permissive environment and I have to carry my Bodyguard 380 or Ruger LCP Max in a tuckable IWB holster.

In situations where I can carry a micro 9, I do carry one instead of one of my 380’s.

I suppose the lessened recoil of a micro 9 converted to 380 would make sense for people with physical limitations like arthritis or injuries, but they don’t make sense for anyone in good health.

There are a lot of people who are in good health who are never going to shoot 9mm in a tiny package well. Shoot, there are some people for whom a full-size 9mm is too much. I’m a big fan of .380 in a 9mm package for those folks and I wish there were more of them. Even though I’m not a big fan of .380 in general.
