Today we’ll talk about the origin of the combat pistol, the revolving cylinder that allowed continuity of fire, the first use of pistols in combat when Captain Hays’ Rangers fought the Comanche Indians at the Battle of Walkers Creek. Captain Walker then reached out to Sam Colt, reviving his dead pistol company to arm the Rangers. Colt’s 1849 .31 Pocket Revolver went on to sell over 300,000 copies solidifying the Colt Firearms Company.
The thing that’s always amazed me is that they had the machining skills to make intricate pistol lockwork, and the production skills to manufacture hundreds of thousands of guns, back in the 1840’s.
Even a SA revolver is devilishly complicated, due to the timing requirements.
The old timers were a lot smarter and more capable than current generations (who are fulled with troons, chubby gay boys, purple haired feminist lunatics etc) give them credit for.
