Leonard Baity out of North Wilkesboro NC was a cop who shot PPC in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Baity’s foray into gunsmithing was born out of dashed dreams and broken promises —he and a fellow cop ordered a pair of guns from a local smith and got tired of waiting. Well like many competitive shooters (with the aptitude to do so) he took the bull by the horns and started making his own guns. He started building guns in a local workshop after work, but it wasn’t unusual for him to work until two in the morning. This put a strain on his marriage, so he left the police force and started gunsmithing full-time in the basement of a local gun store in North Wilkesboro. That shop would become a Mecca for local practical shooters. His work, as judged by this compensated commander, is simply exceptional. This is a grown up 1911 and an unusual one to find in the wild. You may ask why build a compensated 1911 on a commander slide? Why are Porsche 911s smaller than pickup trucks? Because smaller (read lighter) things generally move at a faster velocity. Grips by Hogue because I can’t bring myself to cut up a set of Spegels for this gun.
