Up next in the Bullseye marathon is a 1979 Colt in .45 ACP by John Giles out of Odessa Florida. The legendary Giles was absolutely prolific in his production –making over 4000 guns between 1951-1983. He himself shot competitively (in the 1930s) for his employer the Goodyear Rubber Company. Giles is known best for his adjustable “wagon wheel” sights. He guaranteed his guns would group inside 1 1/2 inches at 50 yards…but they were frequently better. Of all the OG bullseye gun makers, Giles pound for pound made the best guns. Priceless orthopedic grips by Lew Sanderson. BE guns aren’t complete (for me) until they have Sanderson, Roper, or Herrett grips…and a trigger shoe. Special thanks to my friend @brandanbunker for putting me in touch with Giles’ son John Jr. Prior to my communication with him there were absolutely no pictures of his father anywhere to be found on the Internet or elsewhere. Here’s three.

I’m officially a grumpy old man now because I have a gummint issued Seniors card which entitles me to cheap public transport and a few other benefits. So I do tend to shout at the clouds over and over these days. Goddamn muslims, etc.

With that said, I will repeat my complaint that the bullseye folks seem obsessed with taking nice looking guns and turning them into marvellously accurate but ugly turds.

I mean, in my simple-minded view, that is a fucking ugly gun. Even though I’m not really a 1911 guy, every few weeks I see a masterful piece of 1911 gunsmithing on here, and I just think “Oh Good Lord, what a work of art, I wish that was mine”. But not this time. You’d have to pay me to take that off your hands. I think it’s the foresight in this case. That is just so wrong.

Rant over. Back to the clouds. Goddamn muslims are in the clouds!
