It is important to not bend or shear the trigger pivot pin in S&W revolvers. It is possible to replace the trigger pivot pin, but it requires a number of specialized tools to enable a gunsmith to press out the pin and then press in a new pin. I’ve been told by a customer that S&W declined to address this issue on an older S&W revolver. It is entirely possible to make a new pin out of some drill rod – it isn’t a difficult part to make when one has a lathe. It is taking what is left of a broken one out, and putting in the new one, which is a pain.

One of the ways that people bend the trigger pivot pin is to pull the trigger while the springs are in the gun with the right-side plate off. The plate supports the right side of the pin, and without the plate, the pin is wholly supported by the left side of the gun.
