1966 Colt in .45 ACP by Eric Zinn. Some years ago, I had a Caspian made by Eric and it was a great gun, but it was a Caspian. I try to upgrade (to a Colt) if the smith is alive and willing–just ask Lou Biondo and Luke Volkman who I badgered for years. So, towards that end, I called Eric on a whim and told him what I wanted. He said “sure send it, I’ll get to it when I get to it.” Approximately two years later, this beautiful gun showed up at my doorstep. Some guns are loud and others speak quietly through flawless craftsmanship. This gun is the latter. Zinn is best known for transforming CZ pistols into some of the finest competition and defensive handguns in the world. Among the CZ fan boys (read nerd losers) his work has become the benchmark against which others are judged, so pistols built by his hand are increasingly sought after. But, thankfully, his talent extends beyond that platform, as we can clearly see here. In other words, when it comes to God’s gun, he’s still got it. This gun’s clean lines, deep polished blue finish, and restrained modifications, create a pistol that is elegant without excess. Master craftsmanship never needs to announce itself.
