- Stainless Les Baer under a Colt slide (housing a Kart match grade pipe) by Jerry Bentz. When I got this gun, I couldn’t believe how well it was put together. It was maybe one of the most accurate pistols I had ever shot. That’s what you get from OG Bullseye smiths. It was rode hard and put away wet, so I decided to breathe some life back into this old workhorse. I had a friend bead blast the lower and another shop re-rust the slide. It’s my gun (probably for the rest of my life) so I dropped in a commander hammer and a few of my favorite modern controls. After that, you’re goddamn right it earned Cocobolo grips by Craig Spegel. Bentz was one of the quiet masters of the Bullseye pistol world. Although he never sought the spotlight, his meticulously built match pistols earned a reputation for extraordinary accuracy among serious shooters. Beyond his custom 1911 work, Bentz’s was best known for the Bentz .22 LR match chamber, a design that remains one of the most widely used target chambers in precision rimfire shooting today. These guns have stories. Does anybody else have a Bentz gun? Has anybody ever met him? Tell us more.
