This 70 series “large letter” Colt was made at Wilson Combat (by Ron Phillips) at a different time, a time when their guns had soul, a time when they were still willing to work on Colt base guns, a time when Metaloy was chroming 1911s to last a lifetime…a better time. This gun was called a Master Grade, which would eventually give way to the modern day (dime a dozen) Supergrades. It features tactical fore and aft checkering, squared and checkered trigger guard, masterfully low mounted adjustable Bomar sight, commander hammer, Wilson hard fit flanged pipe, and welded up slide to frame. It’s an “all in” full house 1911 made by a smith who helped build one man’s dream into a modern-day empire. Rumor has it that Wilson might be going back into the custom Colt business.
