A “carry comp” is designed to maintain practical dimensions for everyday carry while still giving the shooter improved controllability…all without sacrificing reliability or concealability. The result is a pistol that bridges the gap between a defensive carry gun and a competition pistol. In other words, it’s every-fucking-thing. So why do I only own three of them? Simple: they’re incredibly difficult to build. Designing and fitting a true carry comp requires exceptional talent, patience, and precision, and not many pistolsmiths have the skill—or the desire—to take them on. In my opinion, nobody does it better than Mark Morris. I own what can only be described as a gaggle of 1911s, and this is one of my absolute favorites. Years ago, someone stole my range bag. The only thing in it that truly mattered to me was the set of grips that had been on this pistol. I was sick about it. On a whim, I called Mark and asked if he happened to have an extra set lying around the shop. Five days later, a replacement set arrived in my mailbox—free of charge. I bought this gun on the secondary market, so Mark didn’t know me or owe me anything. That’s just the kind of dude Mark is. There is a carbon fiber trigger in this guns future as soon as I find one.
