Colt 80 series commander in .45 ACP by Virginia pistolsmith Gover “Wayne” Lawhorne. Wayne spent nearly three decades working as a gunsmith in the Roanoke, Virginia area and was a longtime member of the Roanoke Rifle and Revolver Club. He was an accomplished shooter and apparently one hell of a storyteller. He passed away in 2007 at just 59 years old. If you handle firearms daily, please, for the last time, check your lead levels annually. I found Wayne’s obituary and it stated that he was survived by his wife Margaret Burks Lawhorne. I sent her a message on Facebook asking if she had a picture of him. Approximately three months later she sent a message back saying that she was in the hospital and she would send me one when she could. A month after that, she sent me this picture. I don’t know how her health is, but she stated this is the only picture that she could find of him. I told her I would not let the world forget who he was. These guns have stories.
