My friend Phil just picked up this old classic for his A1. After some hunting he found the mount and now has everything together and working. And you know what? For it’s age, the image quality isn’t too bad! Hell lets be real though. Who cares how clear the image is. The thing is cool.

SOG Codename Dynamite: A MACV-SOG 1-0’s Personal Journal- BOOK 2
Mr. Thompson’s second book about his time in SOG is now out and it is every bit as good as the first. More exciting actually. He goes into his more dangerous missions in the second part. As he gained more time and experience he naturally got sent on tougher jobs. Thompson gives a sort ofContinue reading “SOG Codename Dynamite: A MACV-SOG 1-0’s Personal Journal- BOOK 2”
Army Surplus ( The Good Old Days)
Even in the 1980s I recall how cheap WW2 and Vietnam war items were at Charlie Albert’s Army/Navy at local burg. Those days are long gone. I miss the smell of a surplus store. That smell of old OD green cotton canvas. That smell was great. Very unique. I bet at least some of youContinue reading “Army Surplus ( The Good Old Days)”
Apocalypse Now
First video is up from one of my other projects. If you want to hear me and a friend talk about this classic.
Meeting a soccer mom, and what’s wrong with Ms. Mag on guns
By Kevin O’Brien Perhaps “meeting” isn’t exactly the word, because she didn’t see us coming, and we’re only here at all because we saw her first. She was pretty, blonde, liberal, preoccupied, and in a hurry. The first two characteristics were evident at a glance (we did not explore the blonde-ness for authenticity. Odds are,Continue reading “Meeting a soccer mom, and what’s wrong with Ms. Mag on guns”
Vintage Varminting
One of the fellas shared this bit of history. Above is a custom Mauser varmint rifle chambered in the excellent .219 Donaldson Wasp. On it he has a 10 Unertl.
The Rescue Rod
Since the early days of the M16 troubles in the Vietnam war, guys had been taping the cleaning rod to the rifle in the event of a stuck case or malfunction that needs clearing fast. Unlike the much more over hyped AK-47, the M16 pattern rifle does not have a built in ability to carryContinue reading “The Rescue Rod”
More Finnish Archive Rarities!
By Kevin O’Brien A Simonov AVS-36 was rare everywhere except, it seems, in Finnish captivity. Many of the photos in the Finnish Army photo archive (which is the source of these) include captured AVS rifles, either being used by Finns, or, more often, in piles of captured stuff. That’s what this picture is, and itContinue reading “More Finnish Archive Rarities!”
Finnish Firearms
By Kevin O’Brien If you’re not, the guys in these pictures are. The pictures are courtesy of SA-Kuva, which is Finnish for Finnish Army Photo — the army archives there have just released a large quantity of wartime photos. (If you have a Russian-spec Mosin or other ex-Russian bangstick with the stamp “SA” in aContinue reading “Finnish Firearms”
Resource Review: The Guerilla’s Guide to the Baofeng Radio
My friend NC Scout recently put out a book that I think you should be aware of. While it’s officially titled, The Guerilla’s Guide to the Baofeng Radio, the actual contents of the book involves a lot more than just the Baofeng. Scout uses the Baofeng UV5r as a common reference point that many peopleContinue reading “Resource Review: The Guerilla’s Guide to the Baofeng Radio”
