Since I mentioned Pin Shooting the other day in the Kaswer Pin Grabber article, I thought that I would share this video from the 1986 Second Chance match. The origin story of Second Chance Body Armor and the pin shoot is a bizarre one. On the evening of June 17, 1969, Davis was delivering pizzasContinue reading “Second Chance Combat Shoot – 1986”

Thunderzap Data Dump
Since we are on a Second Chance Body Armor kick, I thought I’d circle back to a gimmick round sponsored by Richard Davis – the Thunderzap. Available in .38 Special and .45 Auto, the Thunderzap was a lightweight, hyper-velocity hollowpoint made from 100% fluorocarbon resin. Contrary to popular belief, the round was not designed byContinue reading “Thunderzap Data Dump”
Nyclad Family Data Dump
We’re back with another projectile data dump today, telling the story of the Smith & Wesson Nyclad and its latest generation, the Federal Syntech family. The story begins when a company named ALCAN was formed in 1948 in Alton, IL. They were best known for shotshells and components, although they briefly dabbled in making plasticContinue reading “Nyclad Family Data Dump”
1982 Unertl Prices & Paperwork
What a treasure. Brady let me into his files last night and I was able to take some pictures of various Unertl paperwork, prices and info from 1982.
Factory Refurbished Unertl
One of the collectors turned up this beautiful Unertl refurbed by the factory with the original letter. In 1993 no less!
Unertl Barrel Vibration Dampener
One of the members in the Unertl group ran across this piece that baffled most of us for a while. Turns out Unertl made a barrel dampener. You can see in the drawing below how it worked at the time.
Colt 6945SCW/SCW0921
Off-set Unertl Eyepiece
A rare bit of Unertl Optics. This offset eye piece let you shoot from one should and use the other eye. Some people needed to do this for various health or handicap reasons. A very valuable accessory now a days.
Gopher Shooter’s Supply Model 70s
Although Winchester had offered a “sight-delete” option in their catalog going back as early as the war years, it was Gopher Shooter’s Supply in Faribault Minnesota which capitalized on the trend toward scoped hunting rifles in the mid 1950s and offered them as a direct catalog item. Gopher Shooter’s Supply ordered these sightless rifles inContinue reading “Gopher Shooter’s Supply Model 70s”
Colt SSP – The Prancing Pony that Could Have Been
Why Colt never introduced the M1971/SSP design will forever remain a mystery. They could have been ahead of the curve on the Wondernine craze, and they even had a .38 Super and a .45 ACP variant. I can’t help but think that if the Colt SSP and the S&W M59 had been competing head toContinue reading “Colt SSP – The Prancing Pony that Could Have Been”
